App Compass? One V
I've downloaded three different Compass apps onto my One V but none of them work. They display OK but just don't change direction when I move the phone about, even after calibrating as instructed. One of the apps even had the cheek to tell me that I needed a newer phone! Any recommendations, please?

The one V DOES NOT have a compass in it.

Sorry but don't understand your comment Ssscruddy. I know it doesn't have one of its own which is why I downloaded 3 Compass Apps from the Play Store.

The phone doesnt have the hardware inside it that is a compass. So no app is going to be able to change it's behaviour.

This is because there is no hardware giving out any information for the app to work with. An app isnt a compass. An app can only work with the information that a hardware compass puts out.

Hmm, I think I understand what you said but the phone does have orientation facilities otherwise it wouldn't be able to change the screen from portrait to horizontal when I move the phone around. Disappointing but not life threatening!

The orientation changing, and other little moves are hanging from the gravity sensor. It's another sensor in the phone. There are lot of sensors in today's phones. Compass is one of them. It has only the compass function. A mini compass in your phone.
I bought a HTC ONE V yesterday. When I realized, that there is no compass in it, I was vvery suprised. This is not a low level category device, and a relative new model.
One more remark: When you are in move and the GPS is active, it can show the direction, but this is different too. So, it's hard to believe, but no built in compass in One V.

Thanks Tommobil. As you say, it is surprising for a new pohone to not have that feature.

But I didn't give up yet! My wife has a SE Xperia Mini Pro. That phone has the same chipset as the Ove V, ant it HAS a digital compass. I think, it depends on the chipset (Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255). I think, the One V also has a compass, but it's disabled by the factory. I serached a lot without any result. Nobody dealing with that.
Maybe I'm wrong, and the chipset just supports the digital compass, and it needs a plus sensor. It would be nice, if somebody wrote a more sensible post in this topic!

Leveling application (ie Bubble) also does not work with the One V. This should relate to gravity sensor, and has nothing to do with compass. Some explanation?
