Android SPAM - Push Notifications

I keep getting Push notices telling me that "your phone may have a virus" or "your phone is slow" or "download 10 ringtones". Occasionally, app icons of a similar nature will appear on my homescreen that I didn't download, nor approve for download. I always remove them from my homescreen and delete them (if I can even find them in my app list).

Its incessant, and when I get one it appears as a 5-pointed green or red Star icon in the taskbar across the top of the homescreen. I drag down the taskbar and it shows me that it came from some freaking spam site. There is an "optout" URL listed there, but it gets cut off and I hesitate to click on it to follow the URL for fear of getting more goddamn spam!?

I assume that at some point I must have clicked on an ad while playing a game. Does anyone know how to make this stop?

Have you tried installing and running an antivirus program like Avast?

There is an app called AirPush Detector that will tell you where the spam is coming from.

This is your best option - it will tell you which app is the offender. As soon as you remove the app - the ads will stop.
