Marky you deserve an Olympic Gold for this! I've recently bought a One V and was having the same trouble as described in this Forum link - but you've fixed it!! Well done.

In the phone there is a setting to change the usb to be seen as a syc device and all you have to do is change it. Go to "settings" scroll down to "connect to pc" and change usb to "htc sync manager". Bobs your auntie - plug it in and its sync straight away.
    Hope this helps.

It's on the One V Software updates page. Make sure you follow these steps:

    1) Uninstall Sync Manager 1.0.39.1 *and the driver* in control panel
    2) Unplug the phone
    3) Reboot computer
    4) Install Sync Manager 3.2.20
    5) Reboot again
    6) Plug in the One V and wait 2-3 minutes, and it will finally be detected.

Hope HTC fixes the download link to save others the hassle. Stupid things like this are the reason I've avoided Android phones in the past.

Basically DO NOT use the sync manager from the HTC support site that says it is for HTC One handsets. The link on the web site links you to a download that is for sync manager version 1.0.34.4169 which DOES NOT WORK.

You should ignore that and download the version which the site says is for other HTC handsets basically HTC Sync Version 3.2.20
After you download and use this version it should work. Mine worked fine after that, so I hope it will do the same for you.

    Now the rant...
I bought my HTC One S on 10 June 2012, not being able to get it to sync after going to the support page and downloading the "latest" sync manager from their site and trying lots of other options I finally gave in and called their Tech Support on 12 June 2012. The following is my experience which I suggest you do not follow.
They told me to uninstall the Sync Manager and reinstall - which I did, had done and did not work.
They then told me to try another USB port with my phone and PC - still no joy.
Then they told me I should find another cable to use to sync my phone and PC - which I told them was not going to happen, how many cables do you have in your house which just happens to fit with your NEW PHONE?
They then told me to get another PC and install the HTC Sync Manager on that and try it out - which I refused to do as how many extra PC's with the same config do you have lying around your home to try this?
Then they told me factory reset my phone - which I pointed out was stupid since it was just out of the box and the sticker was still on it, however I did do this since I felt that I had nothing to loose given that I had no data and no apps on it yet - it still did not work. When this did not work they were still insisting that I find another PC to try it on since the problem "must" be with my PC. At this point I think they just wanted me to hang up the phone.
I pushed back saying there was nothing wrong with my USB port on my PC, my cable connecting the phone to the PC since when I connect my phone to the PC as a drive IT WORKS! The PC can see the storage space on the phone no problem so it MUST be a problem with the HTC Sync software provided by HTC.
At which point they asked me if I had downloaded the latest sync manager from the "special" web site? I said I don't know I was just following what was on the support web site. So they dictated a web site address on the phone to me and said that would solve my problems. I will not put the address here as I don't want to confuse. Basically that link gave me the same wrong version the 1.0.34.4169 version which does not work.
I then called them back up again and told them it does not work. They were asserting that it does when I asked them what version were they using and they said 3.2.20 I asked them to send me that version of Sync Manager but they refused. They told me that they would have to investigate and call me back because the download from the site I was given is "the one".

After hanging up again, I googled the version 3.2.20 sync manager installed it and my contacts, calendar synced a dream. The phone connected to sync manager first time as soon as I selected the option.

The real problem as I later figured out is that HTC have the wrong link or download for the HTC One series phones it should be the version 3.2.20 but for some reason it is not. This is only true for the English site. (I live in HK and I do not read Chinese so I have to use the HK English site). The download is correct for the site in Chinese. I don't know how HTC expects to be an international brand if it can't get the basics right.

The tech support called me back the next day (to their credit) but was still asserting that there was something wrong with my PC, or the USB port or the cable. I told them that the version of sync manager on their site is wrong and it should be 3.2.20 but the operator would not listen to me. I told them that I had fixed the problem myself by trawling the net and getting the correct version of Sync Manager from another site, they told me that yes, that is our solution, if you type another region after the web site we gave you, you will get another download. So all of a sudden they claimed that they had given me the solution!

I was so annoyed I just hung up. I am in the midst of writing a complaint email to HTC in the hopes they will fix the error on their site so that others don't have to suffer the way I did but the form space on the web site is not long enough. I have asked them to provide an email to which I can write a proper account of things.
Hi j.i.wilson!!! I registered a username just to tell you thanks for your note, now my htc one x connects to my computer! and I didn't have to go through customer service BS. thanks dude!

I Just bought the Htc one s for £400 and find out I cannot sync it with my pc although i downloaded the latest sync manager and also set my phone to sync with the program on the pc. the program will not sync at all with my phone. I now found out this is a problem throughout the Htc series and will be taking my phone back and will choose another brand, as htc has not bothered to develop a patch to fix this; or update sync manager to fix this problem. Although many users have complained about this. I did reset the phone many times and uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. Howerver without a patch being created sync manager is unlikey to work. Alex Cameron
