My phone seems to have developed a charging problem. When I plug it into the mains adaptor the battery does not indicate that it is charging, and the LED light is flashing alternatively red and green...
Any ideas?

Welcome to the site. Maybe try a new charger?
hi
I had my phone in May 2012, also had a problem charging.
Had to disconnect & reconnect before the charge light would kick in & i got the charge icon.
The Vodafone shop weren't interested, I reported the fault to HTC and after a few mails they sent me a new charger out. The told me to try charge from my lap top, then you can identify which part of your charger could be defective.
To be honest I do still have to reconnect it at times. I am just being SUPER careful with the charging point.
try get a new one from HTC.

HTC ONE S/X and similar has battery connection problem ,
1- If u have good sldering skills just resolder (reballing), be very carefull as there is not much space ,
2- If dosent work, sloder battery connection directly to board (but very careful with connection on the board not rip off, dont use very high temp.
3- If u cant solder for any reason , put thik layer of tape or plastic and place over black connecter after bettery plugd in so when you close back cover it will press battery connector, and onece your phone start to charge it will be on.. Good luck
