Notification Bar Access

Because I'm using a Defender case with a plastic shield, I sometimes have trouble grabbing the notification bar and pulling it down to see and clear the entries. Is there a way to access the notification information without actually having to pull down the bar? For example, on my Motorola Atrix I can just tap settings then notifications and all the information is there.

I am not sure for the stock launcher but there are some 3rd party launchers where you can set it to "swipe down" on the screen and the notifications show...Go Launcher EX, APEX, Nova, and Holo launchers could be possibilities...
