Unable to read SMS?

Hi,

First time poster - wondering if anyone might be able to offer some help. Have a HTC One X and last night I received an SMS. I went to view it and my phone froze, I locked and unlocked the screen and it unfroze, but when I tried to view the message, the thread just says loading and will not load any messages. This is the same for any thread of messages I try, but when looking at the messages at a glance I can see the preview of the most recent message, yet it wont load. I tried restarting the phone a few times and eventually did a factory reset, but the problem is still there. I restored SMS from backup and it apparently failed, but I can see the preview of the most recent message, but still cant view the thread. However, I can send messages and view the entire thread by downloading a third party app (Handcent in this case). Anybody able to shed any light on why this might be/possible solution?

Try downloading a different SMS app, like Go SMS Pro, which is free from Google Play. It should take over as the primary SMS device, and is easy to configure.

Cheers, I'll check it out. I'd prefer to use the default message app however, any ideas on what could have caused it? I'l use a different app in the meantime

I'm having the same problem, but it's only with a few threads. I've tried to delete them and start new ones but it will not allow me to delete.

Other then downloading another messaging app, is there a way to get the stock one to work the way it should?

have you tried clearing the data in the messaging app? (settings > applications > Messaging (or whatever it's called) > clear data)

Doing so will delete your messages, so if you want to try and start fresh, that's a good way. Or you could backup your messages with something like My Backup Pro or SMS Backup & Restore. Then restore them back after you clear data.

Also, is there anything special about those few threads that makes them differ from the others - like pictures or vids, or extra long messages, or anything along those lines?

this has actually happened to me several several times. it gets really frustrating but i found that EVEN if i keep the screen active and let the message thread load, the messages that i sent off don't appear on the message thread at that time. and when i go back to the main message screen then back into the same thread, the same loading problems occurs. i've followed the directions from above and cleared the data as well as the cache and it hasn't given me the same loading problem. don't know if that's a permanent solution or if i'd need to go and do the same thing each time the "loading" issue happens...

My phone is having the white "loading" page problem on one of my SMS threads. It will say its loading forever, so I too would like to know how to fix this problem.

Hi everyone. Not sure if this will still be read, but I had this problem last week and this is the first thread that comes up with a google search.

After reading the comments I found a fix. I had to install go sms pro, and then delete some threads from that app. (I had several hundred messages sent to several people. Possibly the problem?) Once I did that I sent a message to someone and closes go sms pro. After that my original messages worked. Hope this helps someone else out!
