can't play videos with default player

What happend after one round of factory reset and flashing new rom? Still not resolved?

At last I took my one v for service. At first look they said it could be a problem with the software. So they re-installed the software and said now its ok and asked me to check it out. So I inserted my sim and sd card and when I tried to play a video I found the same problem. When I reported this, they said they had checked and all were fine. So they said the whole problem might be because of a virus from the sd card. so we took out the memory card and did a FACTORY RESET. After this they gave me another memory card and I could play videos from it. After this when I inserted my sd card it again showed the message "sorry this video cannot be played". So they asked me to format my memory card, do a FACTORY RESET and then insert the memory card. After doing this my phone worked fine. So if any of you are having similar complaints TRY DOING A FACTORY RESET AFTER REMOVING THE MEMORY CARD.............

I faced the same problem with my one v. I changed 3 handsets but problem persist. Now I have asked for box pack replacement from HTC which is approved. Hopefully I will get a new one soon. I have noticed that 3 functions stop working almost simultaneously these are : 1. You can't play video from default player 2. Video recorder does no work and 3.Youtube application can not play video.
In all the handsets I have encountered same problem. This is really strange because memory cards were almost new.

k, From my experience I would have suggested a hard reset, after removing the memory card, and then trying to record a video without inserting the sd card......... Another thing is that u can't use any video streaming app when the default player is not working, that's why you tube app didn't work. I mean the problems are related. Hope u get your issues resolved soon

I did factory reset earlier with SD card still in the phone. It didn't solve the issue. I am reading your post toooo late . Otherwise I would have tried your option hopefully this issue will not occur in new phone.

At a time of submitting my phone to service center, I removed sim and sd card. Casually I checked if video player and camera was working or not and it worked. But still I submitted the phone.
How can sd card can affect these functionality when they are almost new.

Don't know for sure, but it could be a virus as per the information I got from my service centre...... What did u mean by "almost new"
